FAQs
1.
What is the NYIT LC?
The
Learning Center is the “headquarters” for students who want to
do well at NYiT. It has computers with Internet access,
files of helpful materials organized by topic, four professionally-trained
tutors, and a director with experience in supporting students.
2.
Why does NYIT have a Learning Center ?
All
major universities in the U.S. have centers which provide various
types of academic assistance to students. It is in the best
interest of both the university (including faculty) and its students.
3.
What kind of assistance does the NYIT LC offer?
There
are two broad categories of assistance:
1)
Specific to a particular course or subject, and
2)
General learning/study skills.
The
LC can help with essay-writing and Power-Point presentations.
4.
Who can use the LC?
Any
student who is currently enrolled in a class at NYiT-Amman can
use the LC.
5.
How do students access this help?
There
are two ways to take advantage of the LC:
1)
Any student can walk in and sign up.
2)
Any faculty member can refer a student.
6.
Where is the LC and when is it open?
Undergraduate
Campus:
The LC is located in Room A203 on the Undergraduate Campus.
The LC is coordinated by Linda Khan with assistance from ismail
kharufa (Admissions)
Graduate Campus
The LC is Located in the graduate campus library
7.
Can students get help at other times?
Yes.
Tutoring is arranged by appointment and is not restricted to the
posted LC hours. In addition to the Center itself, we use
empty classrooms, the Library, Computer Lab A, the cafeteria,
etc. Initial sign-up must; however, be done with Linda Khan
during the posted LC hours.
8.
Can students just ask one of the tutors for help?
Students
must first register with the LC prior to receiving any assistance.
This helps us track and assist our users. It also allows
us to match each student with an optimal tutor and/or plan.
9. Can students sign up for help with exams?
Yes.
However, if a student is struggling with some of the course content
PRIOR to exams, it is better to sign up then. Exams are
a crunch time for everyone, including the LC tutors (who are also
students). So if you wait until the last minute, there may
not be an opening at the LC.
